Smiles of a Child

All of us at one time or another have looked at a famous person and thought, their life must be wonderful and exciting. Or how exciting is would be to join the Peace Corp. Most people are happy to dream but a few step out to live their dream. For the ones that take that leap of faith and live their dreams, great accomplishments can be achieved. Our work in Mexico started with a dream, it was not my dream but it was a dream shared with me in the hope that we could help fulfill it. That was eight...

A Plastic Dump Truck and Children

Today was a strange day. Everything at the border went as usual, they looked and we paid. As we headed through town I saw flashing light and soon a siren. As I pulled over and got out to front the officer he extended his hand and I shook it. The load on the old Chevy towered above the cab and included couches, dining room table and six chairs. Also 2,000 lb of food and stuff stuffed in to fill the voids. The officer asked where we were going and I told him, he asked for the paperwork from the...

What is it like?

The team from Providence Christian College; four facility men, eight ladies and one young man arrived in Escondido Friday night. Drew and his friend from Ontario also joined the team. Saturday morning we met for breakfast at Dan & Sherlene Pincellis home in Escondido at 5:30. By 6:00 we were on our way south. Saturday mornings first stop was at the men’s rehab center in Blue Mountain to drop off food and Bibles. Brenda and the children were waiting for us to arrive and the children were...

April in Mexico

This Saturday Leslie and I will head south to bring food to the folks we serve. The new office at the men’s rehab center is ready for the windows. We had a donation of windows last summer and we had no idea were we would use them. God often provides things for our work way before we need them. We have learned that God likes when we trust that He has a plain for our lives and the things He provides. On April 16th we have a team of 20 students and staff from the Providence Christian College...

Children and Water

With the truck packed and ready to go I was thinking about the men at the men’s center in El Porvenir. This trip south was for them and to provide them with 120lb of chicken for the party to celebrate the two years in the business of saving lost souls. Leslie and I have worked with this center from its start. With two old trailers and a tarp pulled between them made the makeshift kitchen and housing for the center. The men would worship in the end of the kitchen on chairs lined up around the...

Food and Two Trucks

As we roll back our trips to Mexico to every other week this year it seems that one truck will not carry everything we need to bring. The four large coolers were filled with frozen meat. And one small cooler about the size of Brenda’s freezer was loaded into the Dodge. The 275 gallon water tank and two large chairs filled Leslie’s truck. The old Chevy had a 6 burner stove and a two foot gas griddle that we picked up in San Diego. They were to be picked up by a team from northern CA on...

The Spirit in the Mountains

What a joy it is to share with others our work in Mexico. This Saturday I had the privilege to share our work with my friend Bob Brothwell. Bob told me that he had done mission work in Mexico for several years. He built several buildings at a children’s home in El Porvenir. This town is located about 3 miles west of Guadalupe where we are doing most of our work for the children. As we pulled into the center that Bob worked on 15-20 years earlier I was surprised to see how large the...
